Making Chocolate Molds

I love to make homemade goodies. I do this year round. I will bake a pie or cake and then call the neighbors to see if they want to come over to share. I like to cook special meals for my husband at least three nights a week. I also like making specialty items for the different holidays. One of my favorite things to do is making chocolate molds. I do this for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.

I started making candies about fifteen years ago. I found this wonderful supply store that has chocolate molds for every possible occasion. They also have fillings for candies as well as the chocolate to fill the molds with. There are several kinds of milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate. The white chocolate is also available in different colors as well as mint flavored. The chocolate molds are made of plastic. You melt the chocolate in a double boiler until it is smooth. Then you fill each of the shapes that are in the particular mold that you are using. Once all of the spaces are filled you place the mold in the freezer for five minutes, a bit longer if the shape is larger or deeper. Once the chocolate has cooled and harden you simply tip the chocolate molds upside down on a piece of waxed paper and give it a gentle tap. The candies should drop easily out of the molds and onto the waxed paper. If they do not readily come out place the mold back into the freezer for a few more minutes.

I purchased some generic molds that can be used for any holiday. I also have specific molds for Christmas Easter and Thanksgiving. I also bought the molds that are shaded like turtles, so that I can make my own chocolate caramel, and pecan turtles. The store had the caramel filling for this and it is very tasty. The store also has a wonderful assortment of boxes, bags and other storage containers to place the candies in for serving or for gift giving. My friends and family members enjoy getting the treats as gifts. They are a bit time consuming to make but the chocolate molds make things quite easy. I find for the candies that I make the most I buy two or three of the molds so that I can have one in the freezer while I am filling the next. The chocolate molds are very reasonably priced and there is a very large selection to choose from.
